CONTACT LENSES
If you are tired of wearing glasses, contact lenses can be a very successful option for seeing clearly. With today’s technology, there are contact lenses for practically every type of prescription. Most people can find a contact lens that will give them sharp, comfortable vision without compromising eye health.
At The Eye Center, Dr Michelle Levin is committed to providing her patients with the highest quality contact lens care. Whether you suffer from nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, or dry eyes, Dr. Levin is dedicated to find the perfect contact lens for you. Even if you need bifocals, there are several options including bifocal contact lenses that can give you crisp vision.
There are two basic types of lenses: rigid gas permeable (or hard) lenses and soft lenses. Soft lenses can be categorized into several types such as toric (patients with astigmatism), spherical, and bifocal lenses. They are also available in several wearing schedules or modalities such as yearly or monthly replacement, biweekly or daily disposables. Some brands are approved for sleeping, but we generally recommend daily wear. They can be colored to either enhance or highlight your eye color. Soft lenses are very diverse, as they can be worn every day or on a part time basis without compromising vision or comfort. They are great for the active individual who enjoy the sports and outdoors. Rigid gas permeable lenses are a yearly replacement lens. After a short adaptation period they are very comfortable to wear. These lenses are very durable, but require consistent wear to maintain adaptation and comfort. Rigid gas permeable lenses are also available for patients who need bifocals.
A comprehensive eye exam is required in order to be fit for contact lenses. This will include an updated eyeglass prescription, an eye health evaluation, and a computerized corneal topography measurement which measures the shape and health of your cornea. You will be given a pair of trial lenses during your soft contact lens evaluation and followed carefully to make sure the fit is perfect before ordering your supply of lenses. In the case of gas permeable contact lens fits, a custom lens will be made especially for you and followed over several weeks to ensure that you have a great, comfortable fit and provides you with excellent vision. If you are a new lens wearer, you will be given full instructions on how to insert, remove and care for you lenses. Please keep in mind that for most patients it is to your benefit to have a good pair of glasses, even if you wear contact lenses, to maintain proper eye health and let your eyes “rest” from the contact lenses briefly everyday.
The doctors at The Eye Center look forward to assisting you with all your visual needs and hope to gain your trust as your eye care provider for years to come.
